The office that protects copyrights is already a reality

It is an opportunity to mitigate Spain's current weakness and lack of strategic leadership in this area.

At the end of December 2022, the Council of Ministers (Consejo de Ministros) approved the draft law creating the Spanish Copyright and Related Rights Office (Oficina Española de Derechos de Autor y Conexos), given that “the current institutional framework is insufficient to promote an effective comprehensive policy for the promotion and protection of copyright and related rights, in line with the importance of this asset in the Spanish cultural sector”.
