Ph. D in Chemical Biology from Imperial College London, UK
M.Sc & M.Res in Chemistry (Organic and Biochemistry)
European Patent Attorney

Núria Roqué graduated in Chemistry by the University of Barcelona in 2003, specialized in organic chemistry and biochemistry. During her last year, under the Erasmus program, she performed a research project at Ghent University, Belgium, synthetizing peptides. This experience deepened her interest in research and at the same time in continuing her training abroad.

In 2004 she coursed a Masters in Research (MRes) in the Scientific Park of Barcelona (PCB), synthetizing small organic molecules in order to identify new anticarcinogenic compounds.
Subsequently, she did not hesitate to move to London after obtaining a PhD position at Imperial College, with a prestigious Marie Curie scholarship. In the lab, she spent hours synthetizing modified peptides as antiviral agents and at the same time evaluating their activity.

In 2008, after obtaining her PhD in Chemical Biology, Núria was determined to start a career in intellectual property. With that purpose in mind she went to Munich to assist an Examiner in the reclassification of patents at the European Patent Office (EPO). This way she got to learn about the inner workings of the EPO, got acquainted with the world of patents and learned German.

Soon enough, German gave room to Dutch, when Núria started her career as a patent attorney in one of the most renown firms of the Netherlands. There she qualified as European Patent Attorney in 2013 and got to work with a great and varied number of startups, medium and big companies in the chemistry field (chiefly in organic chemistry, including biotechnology and pharmacy). The appreciation of her clients was reflected in her recognition as a “Rising Star” in the 2018 IP Stars ranking of MIP (publication of reference in the field of IP).

In 2019, Núria took the opportunity to return to Barcelona, her home town, when she joined Balder IP.

With respect to the profession of patent attorney, Núria enjoys working at the interface of technology and law, as it is an ever-changing challenge of rigor and precision and at the same time creativity. She enjoys the most teaming up with her clients in order to try to protect and defend their interests in the best possible way.

In her free time, she enjoys going for long walks by the coast or in the mountains, crafting, enjoying the city´s cultural offer, and spending quality time with family and friends. Fancy joining for a picnic in the Catalan country side?
