ATTORNEY AT LAW (MEXICO)

Of Cuban and Spanish descent, Ligia was born in Guadalajara, Mexico, where she successfully finalized her Law Studies and then initiated her professional career at an intellectual property firm, giving assessment and advice to local and international clients on their trademark protection. In that role, Ligia became passionate with the intellectual property field and got involved in associations such as the International Trademark Association (INTA).

Looking for a professional growth and challenge that would allow her to expand her knowledge, she travelled to Spain for a Master’s degree in Intellectual Property and New Technologies at the Autonomous University of Madrid.

During her studies she briefly worked in Copyright Law in the entertainment industry, and after completing her Master’s degree she went on to work in one of Spain’s largest IP firms, focusing on patent prosecution in Latin America on behalf of European clients.

However, Ligia`s wish was to return to the trademark field, and therefore she joined the LATAM trademark department of BALDER where she is now applying her extensive knowledge of the Mexican legal system. Ligia is passionate about helping clients bridge the gap between Latin American and European IP law.

In her free time, Ligia likes to travel and is a supporter of animal welfare associations.
