Following Resolution 06/2019 of August 14, 2019, accelerated examination of patent applications will be available in Uruguay as of September 2019. This new program for accelerated prosecution (so-called “PAR”) shall apply to those applications filed before January 1, 2017 having an equivalent patent granted in other country. According to same, upon request of this benefit by the applicant the UY Patent Office will merely confirm if the invention refers to subject-matter patentable under the local patent law and will just examine novelty regarding the national state of the art.

On the other hand, there is no official communication by the UY Patent Office regarding extension of the PPH program (Patent Prosecution Highway) to expedite prosecution of patent applications, which initially foreseen for 3 years is available in Uruguay since October 3, 2016.
