Sandra Gallego Pato graduated in Chemistry at the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona (Autonomous University of Barcelona) in 1997. After finishing her studies, she worked as an R+D technician in a company focused on the development of pharmaceutical active ingredient for third parties. Two years later, Sandra moved to Madrid to become part of the R&D Department of Química Sintética (Chemo Group), where she carried out the development of pharmaceutical active ingredients (API), giving rise to the filing of some patent applications .
After 4 years, Sandra became part of a newly created pharmaceutical company (Arafarma Group), where she was responsible for the technical evaluation of the API´s sources, including among her tasks the analysis of regulatory information and the assessment of the possible risk of patent infringement. Over time, she became more and more focused on the aspects relating to industrial property, participating in the drafting and prosecution of several patent applications as head of the company´s IP Department.
In order to expand her knowledge on Industrial Property, in 2011 Sandra changed from the pharmaceutical industry to one of the most traditional and well-known IP firms of Spain. There, her worked as patent consultant in the chemical and pharmaceutical areas focused mainly on the drafting and prosecution of patent applications, but also included the preparation of reports on patentability, validity and risk of infringement.
Having the experience as a Patent Attorney both in-house and in private practice, she joined BALDER in October 2019.
Sandra qualified as European Patent Attorney (EQE) in 2015, Spanish Patent and Trademark Attorney in 2022, and obtained the diploma in European Patent litigation from the University of Strasbourg in 2018, when she successfully completed the corresponding course organized by the CEIPI (Centre d´Études Internationales de la Propriété Intellectuelle).
In addition to Spanish, she speaks English fluently.
In her free time, Sandra enjoys spending time with her family and friends, travelling and, for the past two years, running.
