Ivan graduated from ICAI (Madrid, Spain) as an Industrial Engineer (B.Sc. in 1995 and M.Sc. in 1999). After a brief period in industry engineering tanks and pressure vessels according to standard codes (API-650, ASME VIII) and specifications from clients (mainly oil companies and civil engineering companies) he spent six months in London improving his English.
Back in Spain, during a trainee period for a consulting company, he saw the opportunity to start a career in the IP field and working with inventors was chosen over programming and implementing in-house software products for clients.
Like many of his colleagues at BALDER, Ivan has worked for some of the historical IP firms in Spain. Since 2000 he has gained experience in patent drafting and world-wide prosecution, primarily in the mechanical area. In one of his previous positions he worked closely with that firm’s subsidiaries in Latin America. Ivan is fluent in English and Spanish (he also studied German for three years after spending some holidays in Bavaria, but that was long time ago).
In his spare time, Ivan loves travelling and, when possible, an excursion into the wild (not too extreme though) to remember his mountaineering times.
