BSc in Chemistry
PhD in Organic Chemistry

Bernat studied Chemistry at the University of Barcelona from 2004 to 2008. He then enrolled in a yearlong master course and afterwards obtained his doctoral degree in the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) in 2014. His research at that time was focused in a key protein in the etiology of Alzheimer’s disease, and he published three papers.

Once he finished his PhD, he worked at the Proteomics Facility in the Centre for Genomic Regulation, in Barcelona as well, while taking a postgraduate course in Business Management and Administration in EAE School of Business. In 2016 his life took a tremendous turn: he got married and went for a long honeymoon to the US as a postdoctoral scholar at the University of Chicago –returning to his research on Alzheimer’s disease. This brief experience was extremely useful in order to widen his horizons, get to know another culture, experience the true cold and perfect his English.

In April 2017 Balder opened for him a door to enter the world of intellectual property, so he changed the Windy City for the sunny Madrid.

Bernat speaks fluently English, Spanish and Catalan.

In his free time, Bernat likes to be as much as possible with his family. He also enjoys hiking, reading, history, the company of good friends and sports, especially football.
